Submission Rules and FAQ
Welcome to the RO Art Challenge Rules and FAQ page. This page will be updated once in awhile, so check back if you’re curious. It should all be pretty straight forward, but we’re stating this just in case anyone is curious!
Rules
- Artwork must be new for the challenge, and created entirely by you. This is, after all, an art challenge, and it’s not like there’s a prize for finishing first (for now anyway?), so you may as well create something brand-spankin’ new!
- This means no screenshots! If you really want to use one as a background, we might consider it, but we’d really prefer something totally original!
- Submissions must be family friendly! We don’t mind a little comical innuendo and we won’t stop you from drawing whatever you want, but we won’t accept it as a submission here if it goes too far!
FAQ
Is this open to everyone? Do I need to ask before I join?
Anyone that’s interested is welcome to join at any time, no need to ask first! Just start submitting with the submit button on the sidebar or from this convenient link!
Does my artwork need to be colored?
No! We’ll even accept some sketches, as long as they’re not scribble vomit and we can tell what’s going on in your drawing.
Is my art good enough? The person submitting before me was so much better.
There’s no such thing as not good enough! We have no good or bad artists here, just artists with different amounts of practice. Any skill level is accepted though, so don’t worry about not having perfect anatomy or an understanding of folds—who cares! In fact, some of the challenges, namely the monster and landscape challenges, are meant to push you out of your comfort zone, so all this will do is give you more practice!
Do I need to complete all 30? Do I need to do them in order?
You can do as many or as little of the challenges as you’d like, in any order you’d like! Just make sure to comment or drop a number on your submission so we know which challenge you’re doing!
Do I need to submit my entry here?
Nope! Only if you want to!
If I post my entry on my blog first, can you just reblog it?
Yes! We’ve decided that as long as you send us a link to your post (and it must be your post, not your blog), then we will reblog it to show off here. We still would really prefer submissions, as in the long run it saves us more time, but we’ll try this out for now. Links to only your blog will be ignored. We still have lives to attend to, and can’t spend all day chasing down your entries and cross checking what needs reblogging and running in circles! Kafras have a lot of work!
I submitted my entry and it’s not up yet!
Chances are it’s just sitting in the queue! As it is right now, the queue posts several times a day, so if it’s been a few days and you haven’t heard from us or seen the post go up, try submitting again!
Will you accept writing?
This is somewhat a tough topic. Writing will take more time for us to review to see if it fits the prompt, especially if a really long piece was written. For now, if you do want to write something, get in touch with us. The mods can talk it over.
Can I modify one of the prompts?
Sure, whatever inspires you to create more art! There’s a chance we may reject a submission it if you modify too far from the original, but just ask us to have a look, we’ll see how it goes. :)
Do I get anything for completing the challenge?
Practice and a pat on the back, and maybe a “Congratulations, you finished!” post here (blog publicity I guess). Truthfully, we discussed it, but we’re all broke and have nothing to provide, especially since not everyone that participates will play on the same servers, etc… Sorry! :(
Can I link to the challenge on my blog?
Of course! Share this with as many of your friends as you would like! The more the merrier!
Can you link to my blog?
Maybe? We set up a link page with some RO blogs, but no promises! We’re only linking to people who have submitted entries for now!
Why was this challenge made?
Our small group of artist friends wanted to push ourselves to draw more often, and since we constantly play RO together, we figured we had a whole universe in front of us to draw inspiration from!
We decided to share it after seeing how many RO fans and artists are around on Tumblr—we hope it will create a place where we fans and artists can share our work, experiences, and maybe find new artists to go love on! :)
